Scabies is an infestation of the skin by the itch mite.The disease may be found in people living in substandard hygienic conditions.Infestation may/may not be associated with sexual activity.The mites frequently involve the fingers,and hand contact may produce infection.In children,overnight stays with friends or exchange of clothes may be a source of infection.Take warm,soapy bath or shower to remove the scaling debris from the crust and then to dry thoroughly and allow the skin to cool.A prescription scabcide,such as lindane,crotamiton,is applied thinly to the entire skin from the neck down.One application may be curative,but it is advisable to repeat the treatment weekly
