MEDICAL MANAGEMENT OF CONTACT DERMATITIS

Contact Dermatitis is an inflamatory reation of the skin to physical,biological,or chemical agent.The epidermis is damaged by repeated physical and chemical irritation.Contact dermatitis may be of the primary irritant type,in which a nonallergic reaction results from exposure to an irritating substance,or it may be an allergic reation resultig from exposure of sensitized patient to contact allergens.The management practises are to rest the involved skin and protect it from further damage.The distribution pattern of the reation is identified to differentiate between allergic and irritant contact dermatitis.A bland,unmedicated lotion is used for small patches of erythema,Cool,wet dressing also are applied over small area of vesicular dermatitis.Medicated baths at room temperature are presribed for larger areas of dermatitis
